About
Lagos is one of the Algarve's most beautiful towns, and the long Atlantic beach at Meia Praia — stretching several kilometres east of the town — provides a spectacular setting for coastal riding.
The horses here are calm, well-suited to beginners, and enjoy the beach as much as their riders. Routes typically include a canter along the wet sand, some cliff-top riding with views of the sea caves and golden rock formations the Algarve is famous for, and a return through the pine-scented dunes.
This is relaxed, accessible riding — not suitable for those seeking technical challenges, but perfect for beginners, families, or experienced riders who want a fun and beautiful outing rather than serious work.
Getting There
Fly into Faro Airport (FAO). Lagos is approximately 75 minutes by car or bus from Faro. There is also a regular train service from Faro to Lagos (approx 1.5 hours). The stables are located at Meia Praia beach, a short taxi ride or pleasant walk from Lagos town centre.
Who is this for?

- Beginners and families wanting a fun, scenic, low-pressure introduction

- Riders of any level who love beach canters and coastal scenery
Not ideal for
- Experienced riders seeking technical terrain or a real workout
- Those wanting to develop riding skills or receive formal instruction
- Riders who prefer inland, rural, or mountainous landscapes

We're not experienced riders but we wanted to try a beach ride during our holiday. The guides were patient, the horses were gentle, and the canter along the beach at sunset was magical. The Algarve coast from horseback is extraordinary. Would be wonderful for more experienced riders too — but absolutely perfect for our level. A highlight of the holiday.
